• No statewide smoking ban. Instead, Mississippi's 2006 statewide smoking law, the Clean Indoor Air Act, prohibits smoking only inside any state or local government building (except designated areas in the state's veterans' homes) or inside any university or college classroom building. Local governments may regulate smoking more stringently than the Act. In 2011, three separate bills before the Mississippi Legislature seeking to enact some form of a statewide smoking ban all failed when they did not receive a committee hearing.
