Medical marijuana legislation pending in Ohio Legislature
Take $15.00 Off Your $250 Order! Use coupon code 15off250. Once again, Rep. Kenny Yuko has introduced legislation
that would protect seriously ill Ohioans from arrest for using marijuana in consultation with their physicians. This is the second legislative session in a row that Yuko has introduced his bill. Unfortunately, his first effort wasn't given a hearing, and there's no sign that HB 214 will be. Due to term limits, this is Yuko's last go 'round in the statehouse, so medical marijuana will need a new champion if this year's bill doesn't pass.
The good news is that the number of co-sponsors continues to climb – six this year, up from three last year. More importantly, with Republican Ron Young on board, the bill is now a bipartisan effort. According to news reports, Young says he began giving the idea more thought after a sick friend from church told him he had been using medical marijuana.
“He told me in no uncertain terms that he couldn’t live without it,” Young adds.
“It does seem unreasonable to me that we have stronger drugs available through prescription than marijuana. I think it’s simply because of the strong cultural bias against marijuana.” As Young’s conversion goes to show, patients sharing their stories with legislators is the most powerful tool we have to pick up support in the legislature. So please, send your legislators an email letting them know you are a voting constituent who supports the measure.mpp states ohio

Thu, Feb 2, 2012Ohioans will no longer be able to smoke in cars carrying children age 6 or younger if a recently proposed bill passes. Democratic Senator Charleta Tavares is sponsoring Senate Bill 27 and feels it will decrease health risks to young children. Tavares was also the sponsor of the bill which made smoking in public spaces illegal in Ohio. The Columbus Dispatch reports that multiple hearings are anticipated on the bill, which is garnering bi-partisan support.
Here are some
details about the pending legislation:texas road house
* Republican Senator Tom Patton shared his concerns about enforcement with the Dispatch. While Patton voiced his initial support for the bill, he is concerned that law enforcement officers will not easily be able to tell if a child is 5, 6 or even 7 years old.
In 2004 Tavares lead the charge to end smoking in public spaces. Two years later a statewide ban was approved by the voters.
* Republican Senator Frank LaRose told the Dispatch that he would like to work on the young child smoking ban bill with Tavares and feels a parental education component should be included in the final legislation, according to the Columbus Dispatch. LaRose also acknowledged that some lawmakers will see the car smoking ban as an infringement upon personal freedom.
* The Associated Press reports that Tavares feels smoking inside care is very dangerous due to the high-concentration of secondhand smoke.
The Senator noted similar car smoking bans in other states to promote the need for mirrored legislation in Ohio. States with car smoking bans when young children are passengers include California, Louisiana and Maine, according to the Youngstown Vindicator.
* Breathing Association President Marie Collart feels the pending legislation would promote lung health and prevent earaches.
Collart told the Columbus Dispatch that she experienced a lot of earaches during her childhood and had a smoker for a father. The Columbus-based organization president feels that trapping a child in a vehicle filled with smoke is a form of child abuse.

* The state legislative website states first time offenders are subject to a $500 fine. Subsequent violations of the law carry another $500 and an additional $250 per violation.
* Tavares feels that when adults do not put children first, legislation is needed, according to the Youngstown Vindicator. Tavares stated her support for an individual's right to smoke, as long as the act does not put others in danger during bill hearing testimony. The senator also testified during the Senate's Highway and Transportation Committee
hearing that infants and minors
are not making a decision to smoke,
yet may suffer significant
health issues because of exposure
to secondhand smoke.

Public health groups and advocates in the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) have worked for the last few years to educate their communities about the health hazards of secondhand smoke exposure and benefits of smokefree workplaces.
End of Year Clearance at Bodybuilding.com!On September 29, 2009, Governor Benigno R. Fitial signed a bill for smokefree workplaces and restaurants into law. Although it makes most public places smokefree, it unfortunately exempts bars, casinos, and departure terminals in airports - and the people who work in those worksites.
This law is a major step forward to protect the health of CNMI's workers and visitors, and sets the stage for strengthening it in the future. Congratulations to CNMI for remarkable progress on smokefree air. CNMI currently has the strongest smokefree law in the Pacific Basin.no smoke going smoke free

Saipan House votes to legalize marijuana

Cannabis Karri  November 12, 2010 stash norml saipan house votes to legalize marijuanaThe Island of Saipan, a US territory in the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, has taken an historic step towards marijuana legalization. House Bill 17-45 has passed in the House of Representatives there making it the first marijuana legalization bill to pass in a legislative chamber in any US territory.

from the Independent party, the bill would “allow individuals 21 years or older to possess, cultivate, or transport marijuana for personal use; permit the regulation and taxation of the commercial production and sale to people 21 years old or older,” while barring pot possession on school grounds and use in the presence of minors.
Although the bill has made it this far, a House committee on Monday recommended killing the bill. Representative Torres has told his supporters that even though he is disappointed that the committee decided to recommend killing his bill at this state, he believes that it still has the silent majority support. He plans on re-introducing the bill in the form of an initiative so the people of Saipan can vote for themselves.
Currently, his office also has a draft legislative initiative and is working to try and get it filed in time for the next election cycle.

As the bill was officially tabled on Monday by the Natural Resources Committee, chair Teresita Santos said her committee took considerable deliberation on the bill and in the end reached a consensus that Torres would reintroduce updated legislation and file it as a House legislative initiative letting the citizens decide on it’s fate.
Torres’s Legalization of Marijuana Act of 2010 is the first legislation of its kind ever to be introduced in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Legalizing marijuana could open the doors for this little-known island paradise as US citizens would be able to travel to the island without a passport. The island’s largest economic force is tourism, and industry that has declined in recent years forcing some airlines to cease regular service to the islands. But not everyone on this island of just under 65,000 inhabitants would like to see marijuana tourism as a major source of income driving the economy.

have expressed their opposition to any legalizing efforts. And there or lawmakers coming out in strong opposition to the effort. Rep. Frank Dela Cruz a Republican told the Saipan Tribune after the vote, “At a time when the Commonwealth economy is on its knees, some lawmakers wish to have its people stoned at the same time. Unbelievable,”
Torres doesn’t see the issue to be just about tourism dollars, in August he said, “I have found that the time has come to legalize the use and possession of marijuana for all purposes and to remove any and all associated penalties.” It looks like the voters will get the final say in the matter.

Wrightsville Beach group one step closer to butt-free beach

WB group one step closer to butt-free beach
Comodynes self tanning towelettes Click here12WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- The debate on whether to ban smoking continued tonight at the Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen meeting. Supporters of the ban got one step closer to reaching their dream of a butt free beach.
The board originally voted three to two against a smoking ban, but supporters have put up a fight and if all goes to plan they just might get their wish.
A group supporting the smoking ban presented the board with a stack of signed petitions. Only 211 signatures were needed for the petition to be successful, but the group gathered more than 240.
Free shipping on Comodynes towelettes Click here“We basically did two days of actual canvassing of Wrightsville Beach by person,” said Sean Ahlum, a member of the Surfrider Foundation, the group pushing for the ban. “It was amazing, people were very willing to come out and sign it.”

Bonnie Monteleone was at the meeting and is a researcher at UNCW who travels the worlds oceans studying the accumulation of plastic. Plastic, she says, is not the issue at Wrightsville Beach.
“The problem is they're finding cigarette butts and that's the number one item they're finding in these samples on these beaches, so if we can eliminate the cigarette butts, we're going to have one of the cleanest beaches on the east coast,” Monteleone said.
The next step to get the ban in place is to have the petition certified by both the New Hanover County Board of Elections and the town clerk.

“I'm sure they all had valid reasons for why they want to do it and why they voted their way, I just think in my personal opinion that they voted the wrong way this time,” Ahlum said.
According to town attorney John Wessell, there is no set amount of time to verify the petition, but if put to a public vote, he says it would most likely go on the November ballot.

Smoking at Wrightsville Beach

Well I will say it again and again. Why not cut off ALL taxpayer money from the county.Put a gate on top of the bridge and only allow those that think they own Wrightsville Beach to pay for everything and see how long it takes before they come back crying for some county tax dollars so they can survive.Man I sure wish the beach was back like it was years ago.Would I40 north to 95 north help this situation???I believe so.

Filter Litter

This would be a non-issue were it not for the simple fact that many (most?) smokers treat the world as their ashtray. Littering is illegal but when a group of lazy, inconsiderate slobs see it as their "right" to trash the beach, people that don't agree with that will react.
Don't look at the people that want a cleaner beach as the enemy, look at your fellow smokers, the pathetic ones that can't be bothered to pick up after themselves. They're the ones driving this push.

Ban Smoking

Quit whining about the proposed smoke ban on the beach. If the smokers would take their butts with them instead of leaving it behind like we're their mamas to clean up after nasty then WB probably wouldn't be so worried about it. Your littering & contributing to the pollution. Grow up & pick up after yourself so you won't have folks up your butt.
